Mentor Helen to the rescue...again! I really enjoyed this post and had a few take-aways. I watched the TikTok that got you started, and I too was amazed. I love that you took your Agatha Christie Project and made this your own. I have a pile of classics in my TBR. I wanted to start a reading journal. And I wanted to start reading as an author to learn more about my craft. This idea has me excited to put all of these ideas into one project. I joined The Classical Book Club here on Substack in an effort to get some accountability with my reading and I also have an in-person book club with some old work colleagues. Both of these have increased my thinking, writing, and creativity immensely. It is amazing to me how all of these great ideas to facilitate my love of reading keep coming into my life and further excite my writing journey as well. Thanks for sharing. I'm off to watch some of your shorts!

Helen,

Absolutely love how you have turned around what you think it’s best for you. Kudos to you! Which brings me to follow how you have taken steps to create a reading journal. I have a huge stack of books next to me to read. My heart is screaming out aloud pick up that book and read but my mind is overwhelmed with many thoughts about work and family. But the steps you took has me sitting at my table with the tools you have recommended and I have begun! Phew! I thought you share this with you as you have got me going! Thank you, Helen.

Love this! What a great idea & I love the idea of images as well to make it a record. I too wish I’d started this in my teens but never too late.

Never too late! I have taken a leaf out of Helen’s reading journal. Once you begin, you start to think,” not bad, I am creative “ this process gives one a sense of belonging. Go for it!

Absolutely love your reading journal Helen and watching you update it on YouTube! I think you’re right about getting more out of something by writing your thoughts down. So easy to close a book and move on rather than letting yourself linger on all you experienced reading it. Definitely brings benefits to slow down and engage more meaningfully, and that all feeds the creative well 💫
