I too get great ideas in the shower! Had one today, but it slipped my mind - hopeful it will return.

This book club perfectly coincides with my lovely marketing group, which is have a 30 day sprint focused on whatever we want. I chose showing up on TT or IG every day through mid-December.

I've done well so far! Although I did catch some negative thoughts coming up around what I've created + shared so far - that the thoughts & things I'm sharing are too basic & simple and people won't be interested. What's funny is that my most recent video on TT, all about how excited I was for a cozy day at home creating & writing, has had the most views. Such a simple idea/concept and people really liked it.

I think we all tend to overthink our content whereas it's often the simple things that do well. Congrats, Erin!

So much to think about from such a small book!!! Thank you for introducing this to us Helen! I too, am struggling with how to show what I am doing in real time, and being selective - I want to share more - but not all! Helen when you record for youtube, what equipment do you use? I feel like my phone is the quickest and easiest to capture what I am doing, but it's not good enough quality at all!?

Use your phone - that’s what I did for my most recent ones! You don’t need special equipment, just something like a tripod to hold your phone up.

Loved this, Helen!

And I hear you about ideas in the shower. I'm asking Santa for a waterproof notepad for that exact reason! 😂

Thank you! Kleon's book, and your post this week, have been great for getting me to think about these things — but — I did the exercises from last week and still feel a bit stuck. The platforms I'm most active on are Instagram and LinkedIn, so that's where I'd start. The thing I can't figure out is what to photograph or show... I'm working on a book that is still in the drafting/proposal stage... photographing my work on screen is possible. What I could do it pull phrases or quotes from my work and arrange that on a background or something for Instagram. I worry that if I try to do this every day, I will burn out. So maybe I will just begin, and let the frequency sort itself out...

I think that’s the thing, Jessica, we have to be able to share without burning out. I’m well aware of this so I’m thinking of ways I could share. You don’t have to share your work on screen - but could share a clip of yourself writing and just say - for example - how many words you’ve written that day.

I'm going to start a list of possible the ways. Thank you for the word count ideas, too! That's definitely doable.

Maybe think of it as the story of your writing life?
